William Grant & Sons Distillers

William Grant & Sons Distillers (WGSD) is a family owned business whose core product is Whisky. Key brands include Glenfiddich, Grants and The Balvenie and production is located in 3 key plants at Ayrshire, Glasgow and Speyside. Widely recognised as a market leader the award winning brand of Glenfiddich is renowned as the World’s favourite single malt whisky. Maximillion began working closely with WGSD’s HR Director in order to establish the scope of the work required and define the objectives.

Objectives

The team development objectives were clearly defined and were aligned with the 2003/04 strategy:

  • Deliver a one-day team building event that would deliver improved dynamics through team action plans following the event.
  • Highlight and build on areas such as communication, trust, leadership and innovation as in the WGSD team member competencies.
  • In addition, Maximillion were required to brand the series of events and provide give away collateral.

Pre-event Diagnostic

A total of 38 interviews were conducted with all team leaders from all three production plants. The interviews were positioned to identify each leader’s objectives for their event, the teams strengths and weaknesses.  Maximillion were also able to gain a greater understanding of the company culture. A number of improvement opportunities were identified that were then implemented within the event formats.

Outcome

Maximillion were able to tailor each day to the specific needs of each team and thus manage their expectations effectively. The events were enormously successful with team action plans being produced for implementation and a full list of conclusions with recommendations was published within a Follow up Report. Through the report’s recommendations, Maximillion were able to provide a quantitative ROI and the client calculated a significant cost saving as a direct result of the interventions.

Maximillion created the brand “Team Spirit” commissioning the logo and produced banners, caps and pencils.
