Team Effectiveness Inventory (TEI) in Shanghai

As the largest centre of commerce and finance in mainland China, Shanghai has been called the 'showpiece' of the world's fastest-growing economy and offers a vibrant and cosmopolitan location for corporate events. Whatever your conference event, business meeting or team building requirements, Shanghai's metropolis has the contemporary or historical venue space or meeting facility to fit the bill.

Measuring the return on your team's development.

Achieve a baseline measure of team effectiveness prior to your team development intervention - as well as a post-event measurement of the return on your investment.

We can engage teams with our online team profiling tool - Team Effectiveness Inventory (TEI). Inspired by the work of Victoria Hoevemayer, American Society of Training & Development, in the nineties, it comprises 20 rateable statements, the survey will provide a further insight into the effectiveness of the team across the following areas, along with full interpretive baseline measure and post-event comparative reports.

In order to achieve a baseline measure of team effectiveness prior to a team development intervention, we can engage teams with our online team profiling tool - Team Effectiveness Inventory (TEI - based on the work of V. Hoevemeyer, American Society of Training & Development 1993). Comprising 20 rateable statements, the survey data will be collated into a 16-page interpretive report which provides an insight into the effectiveness of the team across the following areas:

  • Positive Roles & Norms
  • Team Mission
  • Goal Achievement
  • Empowerment
  • Open, Honest Communication

Within three months we will commit to re-running the TEI and compare this to the initial baseline survey results. This leads to a gap analysis of the team; by isolating many of the variables that affect team performance we can identify opportunities for future development and subsequently we can measure the return for you and the team. A comparative 16-page interpretive report will also be produced.

Details of the Team Effectiveness Programme can be found here.

Organisations that have used TEI include

Global finance business - Group Technology function. What they wanted

Maximillion held a one day facilitated team development event for Edinburgh and London staff from the Group Technology Branch Platform teams of a major finance house. The event was held at Maximillion's reception facility and activity centre at Kirknewton Stables, Edinburgh. The programme consisted of a morning of facilitated team development and an afternoon of competitive and collaborative outdoor team activities.

In response to the client's request to demonstrate a return on investment from the intervention, participants undertook the online Team Effectiveness Inventory pre-event to gauge an initial measure of team performance and to inform programme design. The results of the collected data were collated and a 16-page interpretive baseline report was produced. This was fed back to participants opn the day, providing insights into current team performance - strengths and development areas. Building on this knowledge, during the rest of the morning the whole group got 'hands on' with our Kinetic Connections activity as a way to explore and address team communication issues and team dynamics. The facilitated morning programme was complemented by an afternoon of outdoor team bonding with our Country Pursuits programme, and the day culminated in a facilitated Thinking into Action review and action planning session.

Three months later, we re-engaged with the participants to gauge how this intervention provided a basis for improved team effectiveness.

Outcome and measuring the return

Following our initial intervention, we engaged with the group again, conducted and reviewed the initial Team Effectiveness Inventory (TEI) three months later and a final 14-page comparative report was produced:

On interpreting and comparing the original data with the current data and by isolating the variables that affect performance we compared current performance with the initial baseline measure to calculate the return for the client.

In the process we identified that the Team Mission score increased by 9%, Goal achievement by 12%, Empowerment by 10%, Open & Honest Communications by 13% and Positive Roles & Norms by 15%
