Maximillion was delighted to be given the opportunity to build on our existing relationship with UEBS during this one day Building High Performing Teams programme for its Executive MBA programme student cohort in April 2015 at the Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club.

The day was delivered by Lead Facilitator Mike Tierney, and on the back of the success of this programme Maximillion was selected again to deliver the same programme – led again by Mike – at the Dalmahoy for the new 2016-2018 EMBA cohort in August 2016 comprising 34 students. On the back of the success of the 2016 programme, and following a competitive tender, Maximillion secured the newly revamped September 2018 Leading High Performing Teams programme for the UEBS Executive MBA (part-time EMBA cohort 2018 – 2020). This programme was also led by Mike Tierney.

Event Details

Duration: Full day

Location & Venue: Marriott Dalmahoy Hotel (20 mins from Edinburgh)

Group size: 27 participants

Format: Rotational team-based activities and a whole group challenge, facilitated to link with the theme of Building High Performing Teams

Objectives

Following on from the success of the two day residential programme in 2014 for the full-time MBA student cohort, we were commissioned to design a one day programme for this group of part-time Executive MBA (EMBA) students. The theme for the day was “Building High Performing Teams”, and our programme was designed to fit in to a wider week-long programme, with the Business School leading a workshop the day before focusing on Belbin theory.

What we did

Maximillion’s programme of events focused on activities that would encourage participants to focus on what constitutes successful, high performing teams. Belbin Team Role methodology was touched upon at various points throughout the day, and in particular when participants encountered conflict and disorder across teams during various activities. Participants were encouraged to examine the need to balance differing strengths and weaknesses within their teams in order to allow them to perform to the best of their ability. The morning programme consisted of various activities from our TeamWorks portfolio, building up to a collaborative finale in the afternoon when the whole group came together to participate in our unique Kinetic Connections event.

Who took part

Students on the course are from a wide variety of backgrounds and are mostly working full-time whilst completing the 2 year Executive MBA programme. As well as providing a valuable experiential learning experience to fit in with the wider MBA course, the event also provided an opportunity for the students to get to know each other in an informal setting. Due to the part-time nature of the course, this was seen as a welcome opportunity.

“I wanted to send you a quick note to thank you and your excellent staff for the recent Building High Performance Teams session at the Dalmahoy. The day was thoroughly enjoyable and more importantly an incredibly valuable learning experience. The content was very insightful, good fun and there a number of key principles that I will take forward with my sales team going forward. “

Ross Duncanson, EMBA Student and Sales Director at Floplast

What they said

“Thank you to the team at Maximillion for organising another fantastic team building event for our Executive MBA (EMBA) students. The day was carefully prepared to provide an excellent balance of challenge, fun, learning and reflection and the feedback has been hugely positive. Several weeks on and this event is still a talking point amongst the students. A definite highlight of the EMBA programme so far. Maximillion are a great team of talented individuals to work with and we won’t hesitate to engage with them again in the future.”
