European Group for Endoscopic Ultrasonography (EGEUS) Meeting

Event Details:

  • Date: 11th and 12th November 2015
  • Venue: Sheraton Grand, Edinburgh
  • Format: Main meeting & lunchtime breakout sessions
  • Guests: 200 from across Europe

Objectives:

To host a two day meeting in Edinburgh City Centre providing an educational and interesting meeting for both members and non-members of the EGEUS society.

What we did:

This was the first time that Maximillion had co-ordinated satellite transfers, which involved the transmission of live operations from Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI) to the Sheraton Grand Hotel. This was required for Day One of the programme and could only be set up the day before the meeting and tested on the morning of Day One – don’t worry we had checked the satellite positions before then!! With a great team hosting the live operations in Glasgow and a strong AV team on site at the Sheraton, not to mention the satellite engineers and trucks provided by SIS, we were able to test this before the meeting went live and received great feedback, post event, on the quality of the cases presented and the quality of the live link. It would be fair to say that we were slightly nervous about this until we saw and heard images of GRI on screen!!

Who took part:

The meeting attracted over 150 doctors, nurses and industry specialists from the UK and 12 countries across Europe. The participants were specialists in complex endoscopic procedures and the purposes of the meeting were to discuss latest advances in patient diagnosis, management and technology, using live demonstrations of cases from Glasgow Royal Infirmary, lectures, workshops, case studies and hands-on simulator teaching. To achieve this required careful co-ordination to bring specialists from so many countries together; setting up simulators, exhibit areas, breakout rooms for seminars and small-group teaching and ensuring high quality satellite broadcasts occurred smoothly and on time.

What they said:

“Maximillion did a fabulous job in co-ordinating the recent EGEUS conference at the Sheraton Hotel. There were some complex logistical issues, not least the live satellite transmission of clinical procedures from Glasgow, as well as dealing with the multitude of egos on display among the many invited experts.

Colin McKay and I are hugely impressed at your model professionalism, organisational skills and ability to reassure us by remaining calm at times that must have been stressful. Your wise counsel and sage advice during the planning stages of the meeting, especially as the date grew closer, was very much appreciated.

Danielle, Elina and Heather also performed admirably, so my thanks to them too.

I will have no hesitation in recommending Maximillion to others thinking of planning meetings and I do hope we will have a chance to work together again in the future. Until then, please accept my very best wishes for the future”.
