Shire AG Marketing Group

After a recent conference entitled “Winning after Winning” (the client had a successful year in 2010), the group decided to look into how they could keep the impetus going, particularly focusing on their strengths.

Gallup’s StrengthsFinderTM tool was chosen to enable this. The client already uses Gallup’s Q12 Staff Engagement questionnaire, so some of the concepts were already embedded to an extent, but a fuller background, by way of introduction, was required. All team members undertook the StrengthsFinderTM questionnaire with the support of the version 2.0 book. By the date of the event, participants were ‘on board’ with the StrengthsFinderTM concept.

Event detail

  • Date: April 2011
  • Location: Switzerland
  • Group size: 11
  • Group profile: Marketing Group – a relatively new team, comprising individuals in marketing, conference and exhibitions, admin, training and forecasting roles.

Outline

Facilitated by Lead Facilitator Richard Brown, the programme combined facilitated input and discussion sessions with experiential, activity-based elements.

After a brief positioning discussion on both Q12 and StrengthsFinder, the group was taken through a variety of exercises allowing them to examine how their strengths aligned to their roles in the organisation. This was achieved through a mixture of self-analysis, table and group discussion and feedback.

All team members enthusiastically took part in the enactment of the various imaginary scenarios at the end, including a particularly vigorously recreated “bank robbery”!

Richard commented “it was a great pleasure to work with this group, and the venue, a state-of-the-art office building with the French Alps in the distance, was exceptional”.

Feedback

I wanted to thank you for Thursday – I know the group got a lot of value from the event which is important as we seldom take that length of time away for development.  I was pleased that everyone seemed engaged in the session and that the atmosphere was “safe” enough to relax and show off their less guarded side.
