QMU Campus and Commercial Services

We were delighted to be given the opportunity to support the development requirements of the Campus & Commercial Services management team through the provision of a fun, business relevant team day at The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland.

Event details:

  • Date: October 2016
  • Duration: Full day
  • Where: The Mansion House at Edinburgh Zoo
  • Format: A full day team development programme, comprising a whole group collaborative team challenge in the morning – Kinetic Connections – combined with an afternoon of facilitated group discussion around key strategic themes for the service.
  • Guests: 22 participants, comprising Managers and HoDs from Queen Margaret University Campus & Commercial Services

Objectives:

The purpose of the day was to bring Campus Services HoDs and Managers together for an Away Day – focused on improving cross team communication and collaboration, whilst enjoying an engaging and fun team bonding experience

What we did:

The brief to Lead Facilitator Vicky Russell and L&D Consultant Sandy Smith was to provide a fun and engaging day and offer a team bonding experience that would link with the aspects of the workplace.

Given this steer and the key objectives of collaboration and cross-team communication, we kicked off proceedings with our fantastic Team Top Trumps energiser to get everyone in the right mind for the day ahead, then provided our Kinetic Connections whole group collaborative project over the course of the morning. Kinetic Connections provided a fun, experiential team bonding activity for the group and let them explore dimensions of effective cross-functional team working and ways to play to strengths.

This was complemented by an afternoon of structured, facilitated group discussion sessions. These were designed by Lead Facilitator Vicky around three strategic themes – Customer, Collaboration and Change – and incorporated the involvement of a pre-selected trio of ‘change ambassadors’ to lead the discussions and capture outputs. The resulting outputs and actions were then collated post-event and made available to the client to take forward back in the workplace.

Who took part:

HoDs and Managers from the Campus & Commercial Services function, comprising three main units which have been in existence since 2010; Estates & Facilities, Commercial Services and Information & Learning Services

What they said:

“Many thanks to the team at Maximillion for organising such an effective team development day. It was well planned and was fun, challenging, informative and rewarding all at the same time. I was very impressed with the high standard of service provided by Maximillion from the outset and the individuals involved on the day were great to work with. I would have no hesitation in working with you again in the future”.

Steve Scott, Director of Campus & Commercial Services
