RBS Global Travel Money Services

Maximillion designed a half day facilitated team development event for all staff from RBS Global Travel Money Service teams in Glasgow and London. The event was to be held at RBS Global HQ at Gogarburn, Edinburgh. The programme – Living the Values – consisted of a morning of sub-team and whole group activities designed to bring to life and engage all staff with the GTMS set of departmental values. Running parallel with the workshop activities, the Maximillion conference artist captured participant thoughts, feelings & ideas as they went through the activities, building up a gallery of flip-chart images throughout the day in an extraordinary display of live, quickfire drawing.

Event Detail

  • Venue: Gogarburn House, RBS Global HQ
  • Style: Large group team development
  • Format: Values in Action workshop, incorporating rotational business process simulations from the TeamWorks In programme, live cartooning support and a Mexican Railway grand finale whole group challenge
  • Group size: 58 participants
  • Duration: Half Day

Objectives

To engage the whole group in selected business process simulations that would:

  • Stimulate cross-functional team working  through positive interaction, provide facilitated learning support and create workplace associations
  • Provide opportunities for individuals to demonstrate and ‘live out’ the values of  openness & honesty, achieving excellence, respect, innovation, teamwork and customer service and the principles and protocols that underpin them, in a safe and non-threatening learning environment

Outline

From the onset, the pace of the workshop was to be dynamic and highly interactive. After an initial whole group energiser, pre-determined teams competed in an interactive ‘framegame’ designed around the Values set and specifically how the values are demonstrated in the workplace. The outputs of this were captured and incorporated into the post-event management report. Building on this, participants rotated around three challenges, selected to provide a platform for individuals and teams to live out the values in simulation. This culminated in a debrief session focusing on behaviours observed through the activities. As a ‘grand finale’, the whole group experienced the thrill and energy of a Mexican Wave! Using pre-fabricated paper rods, they built a hand held “railway” circuit to transport a series of footballs – a great metaphor for “One Team – Many Goals”.

Outcome

  • The review exercises were designed to help identify specific examples of behaviours that related to each of the values
  • These behaviours were demonstrated, ‘lived out’ and observed by all participants during the completion of the afternoon’s activities
  • From their experience of the activities as they went through each one, the teams identified and charted as many positive or negative behaviours for each values listed
  • The outputs of this activity were collated into the post event report or Values Manifesto. In the same way, the cartoon outputs of the day were rendered digitally and sent back to the client as a dynamic and compelling memento of the event
