Challenge Events Charity Challenges

Maximillion and Barnardo’s are delighted to announce the launch of Cairngorm Challenge which will be held on 10th September 2011. This iconic charity challenge event is now in its fifth successive and successful year, and will take place in the heart of the wild and wonderful Cairngorm National Park, Scotland.

The Cairngorm Challenge is a hike and bike duathlon with bronze, silver and gold routes challenging participants to walk and cycle 50km, 75km and 100km respectively.  The three distances offer something for everyone from the challenge of a lifetime for the novice to a serious undertaking for the pro. Gordon Fraser of Anatom commented “The Gold course is very tough, as it should be, and having done quite a few of these types of events in the past, it can be promoted as a pretty gruelling challenge that should attract some elite athletes for a great cause”.

All three routes start by climbing Cairngorm Mountain, Scotland’s fourth highest Munro, then participants continue through the estates of Rothiemurchus, Pityoulish, Glenmore and Abernethy.  Each estate provides a spectacular backdrop as teams are given a rare opportunity to pass through some of the most beautiful, unique and protected landscapes in the UK.

But it’s not just about the walk or the cycle alone – the sense of occasion is just as enticing.  The Cairngorm Challenge kicks off on the Friday night with a pasta party and event briefing, and concludes on a high with a fabulous BBQ and disco party over which results are announced and prizes presented. Teams can stay locally in any standard of accommodation from the local Cairngorm Lodge Youth Hostel to the four star Macdonald Highland Resort.

The registration fee is £60 per person but if you register before the end of April you will qualify for an Early Bird Discount of £10 reducing your entry fee to just £50 per person. Each person is asked to aim to raise £400 of sponsorship for Barnardo’s.

Whatever your motivation; team building, raising funds for charity or personal glory, if you are interested in taking part in this year’s Cairngorm Challenge then please visit the Cairngorm Challenge website where you can get all the information you need and register your team’s interest.
