Two dates are pretty big for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016. Both are Fridays. Both fall on the 5th day of their respective months and both bring images of colour, sound and a sense of celebration to mind. Of course we are talking about the Rio Carnival, which begins on the 5th of February, and the highly anticipated Olympic Games which has its opening ceremony on Friday, 5th of August 2016.
Where are we going with this? Well, our product focus this month is on our Rhythm Rocks Samba Percussion Workshop!
Participants work closely together to develop their drumming and sense of rhythm. Using different musical techniques, the group finds their individual style by choosing from a variety of instruments – from the Surdo (large bass drum), Agogo bells to shakers and snare drums. This team building activity can be run in a variety of different ways from working on a straight up group collaboration from start to finish or as a competition with teams performing head-to-head at a grand finale before performing as one big band, a dramatic climax to any corporate event! Rhythm Rocks truly is the process of building a non-musical group into a coherent sounding Samba band and participants experience some of the passion, energy and rhythms associated with Brazilian street drumming.
This is definitely one of the most dynamic group sessions out there. Designed not to be too difficult to understand but not too simple that it becomes boring. Using simple memory aids (learning the rhythms using words) the user is given an instrument to play and within a few moments a cacophony of metal, bells, sticks and drums can be heard. This may seem all too much sometimes from a sound point of view, but after a little patience from both facilitator and participant a coherent Samba drumming piece starts to takes shape.
Rhythm Rocks is for you if you want a high energy event and audio-visual spectacle that gets the whole team working together. This indoor drumming team building activity is fantastic as part of a team away day, and is a great way to unite colleagues from different departments, offices or teams. It is a great metaphor for whole group organisational working that can also tie in with business messages like breaking down organisational silos, fostering interdependent and collaborative team-working – “together we can do it” and “getting the bigger picture”.
Rhythm Rocks demonstrates the huge importance of individual and team collaboration for group success, ensuring a fantastic end result that’s sure to put a smile on everyone’s face.
