Top L&D Venues (part 2)

Maximillion delivers facilitated L&D events throughout the UK, from team development interventions for small teams through to facilitated large group interventions. As a result, we are always happy to advise and work with clients on the venues that would work for the purposes of their event. Here’s part 2 of a small selection of venues where we have delivered facilitated large group experiences and small group retreats and which I would highly recommend:

Top large group event venues:

The Beardmore Hotel & Conference Centre, near Glasgow.

The Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre, situated on the banks of the River Clyde is a centre of choice for both public sector and commercial conferences in Scotland. In 2007 and 2009 Maximillion ran two Open Space-style events for the SPSA and Skills Development Scotland respectively. On both occasions the Arcoona room was used as it offered a large flexible flat floor space that was flexible enough to be set up in the styles that suited the requirements of each event format. The Arcoona also has excellent audio visual facilities and includes free wireless internet.

The Oxford Belfry, Oxford.

The Oxford Belfry is a conference venue in a creative, uplifting location that inspires delegates and sends them back to the workplace refreshed and re-energised… with a little help from Maximillion Lead Facilitators Keith and Jane and a small event team, of course. Our most recent experience of the Oxford Belfry goes back to last year when we were asked by global accountancy body ACCA to assist with the design and facilitation of their annual global conference. The group comprised the top 100 senior employees from around the world coming together for their biannual 2 day conference. Follow this link for the ACCA case study.

Top venues for small group retreats:

Harburn House, West Lothian.

Harburn Estate is conveniently situated between Edinburgh and Glasgow and only 20 minutes drive from Edinburgh Airport. Harburn House is a haven for small group retreats with its beautiful grounds providing the unique setting for a wide variety of facilitated event styles. In 2008 Maximillion was commissioned to deliver a Kinetic Connections event in the permanent Pavillion Marquee for a member’s group of CEO leadership organisation Vistage. This was followed later in the year by a facilitated BELBIN Team Roles workshop in the main House for a team from Audit Scotland.

The Estate also offers:

• Haymains, a beautifully converted farm building, for small to medium sizes conferences and events
• Grounds offering a versatile space for outdoor team building

Swinton Park, North Yorkshire.

Swinton Park is one of the most highly rated hotels in Yorkshire and Cumbria in terms of its facilities, high levels of service and cuisine. Set in 200 acres of parkland, lakes and gardens, the castle is surrounded by the family estate set in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. The function rooms at Swinton Park cater for a wide range of team development, team building and corporate events. Maximillion won a competitive tender to deliver a one day team retreat for Yorkshire Universities staff, combining a morning of facilitated TeamWorks In with the All-a-Board business simulation in the afternoon. The venue offered top-of-the-range facilities in the traditional surroundings of its Panelled Room and the grounds for the purposes of the event. Follow this link for the Yorkshire Universities case study.
